Advanced Wound Care and Suturing Workshop

In this one-day workshop, students will learn to place and remove sutures and staples, as well as additional advanced wound care techniques such as JP Drain management and hands-on wet-to-dry dressing use. After completion, students will receive a workshop certificate in Advanced Wound Care and Suture.
Skills Taught in this Workshop:

  • Suture placement and tying
  • Suture removal
  • Using a needle driver to control suture needles
  • Skin staple placement and removal
  • Wet-to-dry practicum
  • JP Drain management

Please Note: Students will be working on fresh (not live) pig skin. A synthetic suture pad is available to those students who do not wish to work with animal tissue.


STLSP Clinical Workshop Admissions Requirements:

  • 18 Years of Age or Older
  • Graduate of Clinical Medical Assisting (or Equivalent Field Experience)

    STLSP Clinical Workshops consists of the two following parts:

    Lecture Skills Lab
    Approximately two hour lecture will proceed the hand-on skills portion of the lab. Introduction to equipment and hands-on practice.
    A book is provided to you for reference. Practical demonstration and instructor feedback.
    Material is presented by a Medical Doctor. Student skill participation and guidance.

    Total Cost: $200

    The following is the break-down for tuition and fees for STLSP Clinical Workshops.

    • Registration fee: $20
    • Tuition: $180
